A Geografia Mental de Putin

As the world witnesses with astonishment and outrage the new war started by Russia in Ukraine, it is important to understand what are the geographical features of Eurasia that explain some of the anxieties underpinning the current aggression. This is what Miguel B. Araújo attempts in his article in the weekly newspaper Expresso. 

“Em 1939, Winston Churchill observou que a Rússia era uma charada embrulhada num mistério, escondido dentro de um enigma. Hoje, comentadores afirmam ser impossível ler a mente de Putin. Uma ideia central da geopolítica, porém, é que os Estados são prisioneiros da geografia. Esta limita opções, cabendo aos líderes libertá-los da prisão. Se há país onde a geografia é determinante é a Rússia. (…)”
