We are pleased to announce that Professor Miguel Bastos Araújo has been elected to the Academia Europaea, an honour that recognises his outstanding contributions to the fields of biogeography, global change ecology, and integrative biodiversity science.
The Academia Europaea is one of Europe’s most prestigious scholarly academies. It was established in 1988 on the initiative of the Royal Society (UK), with the support of national academies across Europe, to foster excellence in scholarship and to promote interdisciplinary dialogue across the continent. Functioning as a non-governmental and pan-European association, the Academia brings together leading experts from across the humanities, social and political sciences, law, economics, mathematics, medicine, and the natural and technological sciences.
With over 6,000 members, including numerous Nobel laureates and other globally recognised scholars, the Academia Europaea serves as a platform for scientific exchange, policy advice, and public engagement. Membership is by invitation only and follows a rigorous peer-review process based on demonstrated academic excellence and impact.
Professor Araújo’s election to this distinguished body reflects the international recognition of his scientific leadership and his enduring contributions to advancing ecological understanding and addressing the challenges of environmental change at global scales.
