GLObal Biodiversity Energetics (PID2024-159356NB-I00)

Funding body: Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades – Spain

Coordinator: Miguel B. Araújo

Period: 2025-2028

Budget: €208.750,00

Description: GLOBE aims to understand how energy flows through biodiversity, from individual organisms to whole communities, and how these flows are shaped by climate and human activity. Focusing on birds and mammals at the global scale, the project combines species distributions, ecological traits, and abundance models to estimate how much energy natural communities process across different environments. By placing the energetics of biodiversity on the same footing as the energy use of human societies, GLOBE will open a new way of comparing natural and social systems, with implications for ecology, conservation, climate change research, and sustainability policy.
